Moving.

Friends,
I hope this post finds you well. I wanted to let you know that I've enjoyed my time spent with you but the time has come for me to move on. It was a good ride while it lasted and I am grateful for your support - you all are truly awesome. Okay, so I'm really not going anywhere, I'm just moving the blog to a new home. See you around!

In Internet Best,
~K

p.s. You're still awesome!!!

T.G.I.F!

Source: beeka-beeka.com.

Happy Friday friends! It has been an extremely long and eventful week for me...and not in a good way. Be so, I have nothing for you today, not even my normal Six Words Friday (SWF). I know every party has a pooper - I’ll be the pooper today (raising hand).

But hey, although I am not joining in the SWF fun, I urge you to stop by Melissa's house and check out her weekly feature and what all the other cool kids are sharing. Or, you can check out some of my older SWF posts here. Either way I’m sure you’ll be delighted.

Be safe and have a great weekend friends!

p.s. The picture above in no way relates to my week. I just finished looking through photos of our past trip to the zoo.

awake.

Naps are a drag.
Well according to my son they are.
No, he really didn't say that!
But that's what I'm starting to get from his behavior.
(I'll spare you the number of weeks).

This dude, is the worse.
Let's start with last weekend...which is where the frustration normally begins - on the weekends!
Saturday, early rise, full day and no afternoon nap.
Sunday, a repeat of Saturday.

I'm sure we have it out every weekend.
(if you and I have ever conversed on the phone during nap drama time, you've heard the  conversation)
I'm always like little dude, you've gotta take a nap!
You take naps at school with friends, you take naps at home, it's that simple!
(I just get the side eye. I'm not sure where he learned that).

Does the kid not understand his little body needs lots of rest?
Or that he will never ever, ever, ever get back lost sleep?
And that with plenty of rest his mental state will be awesome and that he won't be a horrible monster in the afternoon/evening?
I mean that's what research says anyway...in so many words.
Or what about mommy - she needs a nap too, a mental break...research says that too
Okay, maybe I said that...but his nap time is my busy time!

...and now we're into the week

Monday, early rise, full day and no afternoon nap (at school).
And today, well it's Tuesday...and "I bet your bottom dollar" that the little dude didn't take a nap.
But wait it's not the weekdays I'm too worried about, school can deal with that.
Then again...
thought about it - I should worry!
No nap at school makes for a monster in the evening.

I guess I'm screwed either way.
To think there was a time when I had this nap thing all figured out.

Any suggestions? Quick the weekend is fast approaching?

wtf wednesday.

While partaking in my maidly duties...I came across this - wtf?

Why am I in shock you wonder? Because...
I spent a total of 45 mind boggling minutes yesterday (10 here and 20 there, etc.)
trying to figure out where 35% of this boys toys were. I went from lazily searching around the house, to then thinking I must have overlooked the toys to later thinking to myself - "Boy, 'E' did a great job of cleaning his room!"

He did a great job alright - of fooling me!

You are guilty.

Yes you are.
I’m guilty too.
As a matter of fact, the entire world is guilty!
It was done to us as we were growing up and it’s only by habit that we continue and pass this type of behavior on.

What is it?
An old wives tale….also referred to as an “old wise tale

As a mom to a toddler old I haven’t had the opportunity to use any of these "tales" on my son...but sooner rather than later I’m sure I will. I could now tell my son something like, "If you pick your nose and eat the boogers, your tummy will get clogged with boogies and you won't be able to breath (and you'll die)"! However, he'd just look at me and repeat what I'd said and continue to do it!

Cruel? Possibly but boogers are nasty - especially his. But, shhhh...don't tell him I told you his visible secret. Growing up a few of my favorite old wives tales were:
  1. If you step on a crack you'll break your mother's back.
  2. Breaking a mirror will earn a person seven years of bad luck.
  3. Don't swallow gum or it will stay in your stomach for seven years.
  4. Don't make silly faces or your face will stay that way forever.
  5. It's bad luck to open an umbrella indoors.
  6. A man must be the first person to enter your house on January 1 of a new year.
  7. If you or someone sweeps your/their foot while sweeping you get bad luck.
  8. You should put butter on a burn.
  9. If the palm of your right hand is itchy, money will be coming your way. But, if you scratch the right hand while it is itchy, it’ll keep the money from coming.

Source: marquetteturner.com

And my personal favorite from my mom, which has me scurrying at the end of the year (till this day):
  • If your house is not in order (clean, including all laundry) by December 31st, your house will be dirty all year long.

What “old wives tales” are you guilty of telling your child/children to discourage unwanted behavior or scare them? What old wives tales do you hold from your childhood?

in my purse:

pull-ups
wipes
tiny board books
used tissues
random trash picked up during our travels

...these are the small items in my purse that remind me you are NEAR
even while away each day amidst our daily routine.

a few things...Home Rules Mix tape Vol. 1.04

It's come to my attention that there are a few things that my kid needs to be aware of and they are:

  1. Peddling your tricycle is for you to do, not mom (granted I could use the exercise)
  2. Mom picks the boogers, not you.
  3. You wake up late, you eat breakfast at school not at home.
  4. Just because the "Cat In the Hat" thinks he knows a lot about that does not mean you do too - nor Sally, Nick, or Fish.
  5. Sleep...it's awesome and I'll never get the kazillion hours I lost during my 20's and early 30's or nurturing you back, so stop manipulating my sleep and I'll stop manipulating yours.
  6. It is not required that we go to the store everyday after school...so please stop asking when I pick you up (and maybe the teachers will stop looking at me weird)
  7. You can NOT continue to run out into the street because you love the chase, to pet some unknown animal, because you have to say hi to the squirrel, or because you want to cop a ride someone's bicycle.
  8. Prolonging the time you lay in bed does not get you off of potty duty in the AM.

...more to come...

Nyiah.

this is nyiah
she's my #1 gal
she's also my little cousin
this girl is amazing...she was a preemie
(I dreamed of her birth)
she's now 10 years old...vibrant, yet sensitive
this picture is from her try-out at BSFA

eventually she will become a teenie bopper and all that stuff I was
every time I see her I'm in awe - It's crazy how time fly's

...with words - sometimes I break the rules, sorry.

What dreams may come.

I’m a dreamer.
I dream about 6 nights a week.
Some dreams I remember clearly and some I remember small bits of .
I come from a family of dreamers (no I’m not crazy).
My grandmother did it and she interpreted dreams well.
A few of my aunts’ do it, my mother does it and…well, I do it too.
Strangely none of my other cousins do it – okay so call me crazy (if you must, I can take it).

A few years back I dreamed of the birth of my cousin – an early delivery
I was 4,000+ miles away.

I have vivid dreams of those who have passed…as if they are physically here.

I have dreams of people...that very shortly after leave us.

I have dreams of situations that always often present themselves or come to light.

I often creep myself out.

Most recently I had a dream about fish.
A dream about fish usually means someone’s pregnant (in “my” history book).
The next day I immediately began phoning and texting folk to see who it could have been…
Still searching for that answer…although not too worried…it is not me!
Others say:
*Seeing a live fish in a dream is very much good luck unless the fish was carp, in which case it is a warning against subjecting yourself by your actions to criticism. *A fish swimming in clear water is an omen that you will acquire personal wealth and power. However, to see a dead fish as in a market is an omen of disappointment. (Needless to say, I haven’t had any dreams such as these).

The other night I dreamed about a rat.
A very large disgusting fat rat. I'd never seen anything like it.
Okay, maybe I have downtown somewhere...but never in my dreams!
Just hanging out strolling pass me - ughhh.
Am I a little weary? Yep, a little.
Deception, jealousy, someone working against me...those can’t be good things.
I’m now officially sleeping with one eye open – okay not really but I have on my super specks!
I am def. creeped out.

Am I a little too into this dream thing?
Maybe
Maybe not...especially if history repeats itself.

Does anyone else dream, interpret dreams, etc.? How do you feel about people that do?

6.02.2011

the floor

(Back drop: Me sitting on the couch enjoying the boob tube as I attempt to wind down for the evening)

ACTION!

E: “wee,wee…arrrrrrrgh, ka boom!”
(as he proceeds to the ottoman – slamming hisself across it and bouncing off of the couch - apparently someone’s having a Friday Night Smack Down moment)

...10 minutes LATER...

I hear the giggles and I continue to ignore him (clearly someones seeking attention)

And then, out the corner of my eye I notice this last time is a bit different

This time...I see two little legs up in the air and a big head moving towards the floor.

MAN DOWN (I began to think)

E: "Mom you okay?" (As he slowly resurfaces)

Me: "No, are you okay...I've been sitting on the couch the entire time"

E: "I'm okay"

Me:  "Well since you're okay and not hurt...please tell me what exactly did you hit when you landed on the floor?"

E: "the floor"

(I just chuckled inside. kids, you gotta love them for their honesty)

they made sacrifices to keep us safe, to keep us secure, to give us freedom, give us liberty
thus we remember and are thankful.

rainbow.

...there something about a rainbow that restores my faith...in a fluffy sort of way...

5.20.2011

morning brew.

This morning I rose in a different setting - my parents house.
The notion when I sleep over their house is "Don't sleep past 5:30AM or you'll never make it to work ontime". (especially with a toddler).
...and for anyone that knows me, well you know I am not slap happy in the morning. I am blessed to be alive...but not slap happy to venture into the day.
So usually when we camp out over my parents, I have to con myself into getting up early
(this is where I should be honest insert that I actually have to con myself every morning to get up).
I'd have to say last night was not a restful night. I had a kid poking me, tossing and turning and then I had the pleasure of hearing their smoke detector chirp consistently.
Nevertheless, I did pretty well waking up with the small amount of sleep I had (kudos to me).
I even had enough time to stop for a cup of coffee, which never happens anymore.

My entire drive into work consisted of listening to the radio and deciding where I would stop along the way - starbucks or dunkin donuts (i know awesome morning thoughts)...
Quiet honestly, when I think back...the thought of it all was pretty obsessive!
- Do I want to get a soy caramel macciato because I haven't had one in ages and it oh soothes my soul and takes me to another place?or
- Do I want to get a coffee (and possibly a donut) from dunkin donuts? Why, because everyone runs on dunkin, you know?
- Which drive through line would be the longest?
- Do I want to stop immediately before I get on the beltway or do I want to stop 5-10 minutes prior to work?
...those sort of questions - back and forth, over and over.
Yep, obsessive!!!

Long story short, I ended up at dunkin donuts
I picked up a cup of coffee (and a donut), had the pleasure of not waiting in line (I went inside and ordered)
Oh it felt so good.
No crazy kid in tote (another story)
I listened to an adult radio station vs. the kiddie CD
and to top it off, a super early arrival to work...

I got myself all situated and settled at my desk and spilled my coffee

Sucks

**************************
Has this ever happened to you? Do you posses any bad morning habits?

5.18.2011

when you brush your teeth with toddler toothpaste...

put your underwear on backwards;
mistake your little cousins tights for your stockings (no I'm not that small - it was the location of them!);
pour your coffee into the kiddie cup and proceed to drink it; or
when you look and your kid is sitting in the drivers seat, and you're locked in the back seat (damn kiddie locks)...

well friends,
those are definite signs you're I'm running late!
yep, sometimes it be's like that.
Happy Monday Wednesday!

furlough day play. not.

E: look mom! I'm standing  up high!
Me: Ummm, well I'm not sure that's really important, you're supposed to be checking out the dolphins
E: Dolphins? oh, okay!

E: Mooooooom, Grandpop, can we eat now!
Me: Look, look, the dolphin is swimming towards you...
E: no, mom...I'm readito eat!
Me: Ugggggggggh! (Thinking, "I'm so glad I decided not to take that trip to the National Mall")

tardy for the party...

So there's a blog party
and i'm joining it!
a little late to the party...but who's counting [side eye]
whose idea was this anyway?

i mean really, this is only another attempt:
to pull me away from doing laundry
to stop me from doing real work
to ignore the phone
to...umm did I say do real work
to let the mickey mouse club house dvd run on repeat (okay i'm joking)
to forget i should thaw out something for dinner and not make oatmeal because it's easy or because 'E' lusts loves it.

but anyway, i will stop here. i think you get the point...this blog party thing...it's a way for me to meet some great people and continue to slack off in other ways.

so here's the 411:
i'm thirty - ish - up there
i work  part time at my full time and i work over time at my full time (did that sound ridiculous? oh well)
i have one monster, mess, boy who seems to think everything is funny (uggh - is that my fault?)
i write about a lot of things...mostly us & life. a mix of funny, sweet, poop and dribble. i rarely get too deep in my writings but when i do...well i do (good luck finding one of those posts)
i'm a single mom
i design when i'm not playing cars, singing dora, or mostly hiding from my son.

i'm looking forward to participating and meeting new folks! I really hope i can keep up. with that being said hello, it's nice to meet you. and if you're stopping by from the UBP11 please leave a comment and let me know you were here! if you're family...well you know.

p.s. thank you 5 Minutes For Mom for adding an extra 5 minutes to my "slackary". i like it!

contemplating b.w.'s*...

[*b.w. = butt wiping]

no, I'm not contemplating on wiping my butt or even if i should.
i'm a-okay with that!

it's the boys bootie to be exact
i've been contemplating which is worse:

wiping a babies/ pre-toddlers booty when changing a diaper OR wiping a toddlers butt?

i mean one does get used to it.
you're supposed to, right?
it's a necessity as a baby - who else will wipe the booty when he/she stinky's?

but, the stage where the kid is being potty trained...
well...umm you know...

you get all excited (and possibly you do a happy dance)!
the stage has been set - you're in the process of losing the diaper and the "changing of the diaper ritual."

but then
there comes that moment
you know, the poo? boo boo?  #2?
and the kid attempts to wipe...
just disgusting

and, well
you're back to contemplating and wondering - really does this ever end!

Which do you think is worse, wiping a babies/ pre-toddlers booty when changing a diaper OR wiping a toddlers butt?

What have your experiences been? I wonder if anyone has ever kept a record of how many times they've wiped their kids butt? No seriously, I know someone has!

weekend fab-u-las-ity!

pewwwl!
i think if my cousins saw this picture here they'd come after me!
wait, my one crazy cousin isn't on this picture - so it's safe!
ewwwwl flashback old school picture!
look at us!
look at my aunt's kitchen cabinets!
my cousin (tall dude, top left) flew into town this past weekend and we all got together.
to say that we had a good time would be an understatement - we had an awesome time together!
it was like back in the day when we were all kids...except most of the conversation was about our kids!
i loved it!
it was fabulous!

I think

I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.

~George Eliot
