Drawing A Line.

Son,
Every day I draw a line from my soul to yours...
Sometimes straight and at other times curvilinear.
A colorful and but inspiring line.
A line with no boundaries, one to cherish forever...
One to pass along for generations to come.

A Jewish guy. A Christian floater and a basement apartment

Background:
The Jewish Guy – my boyfriend
The Christian Floater - me (raised in a Holiness and Baptist Church and also attended Catholic School)

The story:
(preface:I really don't like to get into religion and beliefs too much - I just believe people believe what they believe and it's your right to believe in whatever you believe in - so this will be brief. sort of)

It is my personal belief that religion plays or can play a factor in most relationships and a couples future. As my boyfriend and I are from different backgrounds, I believe it’s important that we find some sort of common ground – religion wise. I believe it will help our growth as a couple/family (sorry if I loose you here).

With that being said my boyfriend and I had discussed religion in our early stage of dating but not to a full extent until recently. So in a recent conversation, I again made it known that I would like to learn more about his religion and attend a service together whether it be a blue, red, or green church (I think you get my point).  He agreed and off I went church shopping searching - It almost felt like I was shopping for a new home (ironic in some ways). In my search I came across two churches that looked interesting, both Unitarian (which he suggested). He checked them both out online. And so we headed to one of the churches last Sunday.

The service was nice and the people were friendly – we both enjoyed ourselves. We conversed with some of the members of the church afterwards. On the way out of the church we stopped to speak to the pastor as he was standing by the door greeting the congregation.

The pastor introduced himself, we each introduced ourselves.
The pastor then proceeds to ask where or what area we are from – I tell him where I am from.
He then tells me of his location/ neighborhood - of which I am very familiar with.
He then turns to me and says: I live in the XYZ neighborhood, in a tiny apartment in the basement of a large house that was split up into units.”

[crickets, crickets]

I then attempted to look towards my boyfriend to see if he overheard this.

[crickets, crickets]

Thankfully a church member scooped in and spoke saved me from the awkwardness…
I quickly said, “Okay, have a good afternoon and slipped past the pastor out of the church”

[oh the thoughts that were going through my head at this moment - it was like the music stopped]

Nevertheless, I’ll probably attend services at this church next Sunday or go to the second church I found and then back to the pastor’s basement apartment this church…awkwardly.

What experiences if any awkward or not have you had when visiting houses of worship, a church, synagogue, etc.?

tardy for the party...

So there's a blog party
and i'm joining it!
a little late to the party...but who's counting [side eye]
whose idea was this anyway?

i mean really, this is only another attempt:
to pull me away from doing laundry
to stop me from doing real work
to ignore the phone
to...umm did I say do real work
to let the mickey mouse club house dvd run on repeat (okay i'm joking)
to forget i should thaw out something for dinner and not make oatmeal because it's easy or because 'E' lusts loves it.

but anyway, i will stop here. i think you get the point...this blog party thing...it's a way for me to meet some great people and continue to slack off in other ways.

so here's the 411:
i'm thirty - ish - up there
i work  part time at my full time and i work over time at my full time (did that sound ridiculous? oh well)
i have one monster, mess, boy who seems to think everything is funny (uggh - is that my fault?)
i write about a lot of things...mostly us & life. a mix of funny, sweet, poop and dribble. i rarely get too deep in my writings but when i do...well i do (good luck finding one of those posts)
i'm a single mom
i design when i'm not playing cars, singing dora, or mostly hiding from my son.

i'm looking forward to participating and meeting new folks! I really hope i can keep up. with that being said hello, it's nice to meet you. and if you're stopping by from the UBP11 please leave a comment and let me know you were here! if you're family...well you know.

p.s. thank you 5 Minutes For Mom for adding an extra 5 minutes to my "slackary". i like it!

Free day, fun day!

Soooo, you might want to catch that dolphin coming your way son!

today was a great day!
lot's of sunshine.
it was my secret day!
okay, not really a secret day...more like a free day.
dolphins, fish, turtles, and some other creatures...
(not to mention, good food).

i'd only been waiting for this day since my last free day(s) - the Christmas holiday

no complaints, okay one...the dolphin show.
i enjoyed the dolphins but not the show...
same thing i said last year (sigh)!
but again, it was a good day!

New Year’s

... Resolution Joy

Happy New Years to all. It's monday...and believe it or not I don't have a case of "the mondays!" Today it's back to a regular work schedule. I got to slightly slack off for the two weeks due to the holidays and all the festivities planned during that time.

'E' had an awesome holiday! He's really coming into his own - playing well with others, putting together tons of sentences - calling folks on the phone conversing, and my favorite - he now tells me when his food it "goood"...it's funny how i didn't completely realize he was changing until spending more time with him during the holiday (unlike the time we spend during the normal work week). Oh and he poo poo'd in the potty. what a blessing. i just have to keep up the work with that.

E's treasured present received: matchbox cars and the automobile garage w/ramp given to him by his grand pop

as for myself, i didn't relax much during the day - relaxed when everyone was sleep, staying up to the wee hours watching tv and snacking - i payed for it in the mornings.  somewhere along the holiday i went on a spiritual journey - i did found understanding in a lot of things as far as myself, relationships, etc. not sure how this journey came about but i know it happened and i and i'm glad i did.

mom's treasured present received: the scarf pictured above by Mr. B.

i hope that everyone had a good holiday and is bright eyed and bushy tailed for this new year and what it has in store. i didn't make any new year’s resolutions. i usually break them or as i'd like to say forget about them. However, i am inspired by this new year and am i am keeping my fingers crossed for good this to come as i navigate the year.

our most treasured present received: the love and support of our families and being able to spend time with those close to us (that includes you too Mr. B).

did you make any new year’s resolutions? if so have you broken any of them yet? more so how are you approaching this new year?

Decoder Pins & Ovens...

"The tree that Beeka & Mom built."

I wrote a a tiny list for Christmas this year.
I didn't have to check it twice - I think it was clear.
Yep, I went old school with it!
Too old to write a list you say?
Gnaw, one's never to old - I believe.
So this list I wrote...
I asked for one thing,
wait maybe two.
The first thing I asked for - a "Secret Society decoder pin
(to decode some things in my life).

The second - an easy bake oven...because after I decode what's unclear
I should have a small treat. Besides, I always the kid in me always wanted one!

p.s. please disregard the missing tree skirt and lack of gifts...

Happiness Is...

+  a "whine free" evening
+ "hugs" from family
+ "small chats" w/the kids at daycare
+ "saying no" to household chores at least twice a week
+ "being greeted with a morning smile" before the  I wants
+  taking off your adult eyes and "putting on your child eyes" - living in the moment

something to remember besides i love you

as i sit here and stare out the window, i do as i always do.  i think of you.

today however, as i thought of you i thought about my childhood memories.

i want to say i have tons of childhood memories...

but unfortunately i can only remember a few - like the times i spent with my cousins playing in my aunts basement wowed by all the toys they had,
or the times my one cousin and i would make a bowl of oddles of noodles and watch pinwheel on television - it seems everyday at lunch [or when i was at his house]...

the holiday dinners and xmas eve when the family would come together and each kid was allowed to open up one gift and then we all scurried home for the arrival of the jolly guy in the red suit...

and lastly the memorable times when one particular aunt would take all the kids on a trip in her fancy car [hey we were little & we thought she was rich].

these were all memorable times
...and they were times spent with family

being the only child, these were great times for me.
with this being said, you may or may not enjoy [or have enjoyed] playing with your toys alone in your room or with mommy.

you may have often wondered why you were always around your cousins or mommy's close friends with kids [now your friends].

or why i called various family members on the phone and let you converse with them on the phone...

it's because i believe in family [despite our circumstances at the time];
it's because from experience i believe family will always have your back;
it's because even though everyone has one [or two] crazy people in their family you can learn something from that person;
it's because i grew up around my family and couldn't imagine you not having that experience of closeness with anyone else [besides me of course + your future spouse]; and
it's because family is where most of the my memories i hold dearest come from.

if you should ever remember anything besides my love for you you should remember memories installed by family and that your family loves you too
.
