the Library.

E: Mom, read me a book please.
Me: Okay, well lets sit here on this fancy recliner and read a book.
E: Okay

[we sit and I began to read the book. However, E decides he rather get another book...so I let him go and pick another book - he comes back with a new book]

Me: Okay, let's read!

[I began to read the book]

Me: Hmm E, this book is umm, mmm, interesting and very long
E: okay, I will go and get another one

[E gets up and runs to grab another book. In the process he passes two women]

E to the women: Hey, I will be right back okay! I got to get another book. Mommy doesn't like the one I got!

Lessons Learned/Reinforcements:
Your kid will tell your business to anyone.

a few things...Home Rules Mix tape Vol. 1.04

It's come to my attention that there are a few things that my kid needs to be aware of and they are:

  1. Peddling your tricycle is for you to do, not mom (granted I could use the exercise)
  2. Mom picks the boogers, not you.
  3. You wake up late, you eat breakfast at school not at home.
  4. Just because the "Cat In the Hat" thinks he knows a lot about that does not mean you do too - nor Sally, Nick, or Fish.
  5. Sleep...it's awesome and I'll never get the kazillion hours I lost during my 20's and early 30's or nurturing you back, so stop manipulating my sleep and I'll stop manipulating yours.
  6. It is not required that we go to the store everyday after school...so please stop asking when I pick you up (and maybe the teachers will stop looking at me weird)
  7. You can NOT continue to run out into the street because you love the chase, to pet some unknown animal, because you have to say hi to the squirrel, or because you want to cop a ride someone's bicycle.
  8. Prolonging the time you lay in bed does not get you off of potty duty in the AM.

...more to come...

the floor

(Back drop: Me sitting on the couch enjoying the boob tube as I attempt to wind down for the evening)

ACTION!

E: “wee,wee…arrrrrrrgh, ka boom!”
(as he proceeds to the ottoman – slamming hisself across it and bouncing off of the couch - apparently someone’s having a Friday Night Smack Down moment)

...10 minutes LATER...

I hear the giggles and I continue to ignore him (clearly someones seeking attention)

And then, out the corner of my eye I notice this last time is a bit different

This time...I see two little legs up in the air and a big head moving towards the floor.

MAN DOWN (I began to think)

E: "Mom you okay?" (As he slowly resurfaces)

Me: "No, are you okay...I've been sitting on the couch the entire time"

E: "I'm okay"

Me:  "Well since you're okay and not hurt...please tell me what exactly did you hit when you landed on the floor?"

E: "the floor"

(I just chuckled inside. kids, you gotta love them for their honesty)

4.20.2011

furlough day play. not.

E: look mom! I'm standing  up high!
Me: Ummm, well I'm not sure that's really important, you're supposed to be checking out the dolphins
E: Dolphins? oh, okay!

E: Mooooooom, Grandpop, can we eat now!
Me: Look, look, the dolphin is swimming towards you...
E: no, mom...I'm readito eat!
Me: Ugggggggggh! (Thinking, "I'm so glad I decided not to take that trip to the National Mall")

soon trading in my 1 for a 2

...and hopefully getting rid of Elmo and getting a new buddy

there's a birthday creeping up in a few days and i REFUSED to send 'E' to school with the birthday norm - a cake. i had to out do the norm...what loving, chaotic, competitive d.y.i lovin' parent wouldn't...no seriously. so today we skipped into the school with a "d.i.y super duper birthday pack"!

what is that, you ask? it's my rendition of a grab bag with:
+ an elmo coloring book w/ text
+ crayons gently wrapped
+ cupcake toppers [on muffins]

conceptualized and put together by a procrastinator - yours truly - yawn. and so i'm excited. well just a little. but more so curious as to what the teachers and parents will think. just curious, not worried.
so yep...i'm that mom!
hmm... i think my photos suck.

Nanna, are we famous now?

Nanna and the grand kids caught strolling about on a early fall morning.

***this photo submission is part of Wordless Wednesday***
it's also my "happy view" - and reminds me of that moment of peace
that can sometimes happen

Sayings, Situations, and An Incident

SAYINGS
“Mommy  top (stop) it, top it!”
[as I washed my sons private area during bath time]
 ---
“Kahthee sai’ (said), no, no, no, no!”
[Beeka looking in window at daycare during drop off – referring to his teacher, Kathy]
 ---
“Get down Rayne, Get down Rian!”
[conversations with cousins that are NOT present based on a situation that occurred last weekend]
 ---
“Mommy, Elmo not nice.”
[random conversation while driving home from daycare]
---
“It’s rainin’ mommy”
[while taking an evening walk -75 degrees and the suns setting]
---
Eat mommy, sit down now, eat!
[clueless, I guess the boy wanted some company]

SITUATIONS
Beeka: Wan (want) watch Elmo mommy!
Me: no, not tonight Beeka, its sleepy time
Beeka: Noooooooooo, mommy not nice…u not nice [as he runs off down the hall with his plush Elmo]

---

Preface: I’m in the kitchen doing who knows what and I hear some babble and yelling coming from the living room. I then proceed towards the living room only to find Beeka (my son) slouching down with his index finger pointed towards Elmo and he's yelling:

"Didn't I tell you no, Elmo, no...you don't do that...you kno better!"

I just looked and said, "Hey there...so you definitely learned a lot over Shelly's house yesterday, wow!"

[I then proceeded back into the kitchen to make a special phone call to Shelly - Shelly...well, she's my cousin]

AN INCIDENT
“Lego Storm”
I am sitting on the couch, minding my business and eating a bowl of soup because I’ve caught kiddie cooties.
Suddenly, a storm of toys come flying pass the side of my head, ear, neck, or whatever! I hear a giggle!
I think to myself, should I even wonder what the heck is going on, do I look back or duck?
Crap, too late!
I just got popped upside the head, not once but twice with a Lego piece.

Love your # 1 fan

Mommy I finally got behind my bed!

my dearest monster,

as we start our half week, i just thought about you and wanted you to know that i love you. i am and will always be your number one fan as you are my number one fan.

you have brought much joy to my world and a thirst for improvement.

i love your morning, daytime, and evening smiles and hello's. i love how you announce "mommy's here" when i come into a room.

i dislike that you are whiny, sometimes for no absolute reason at all. i am troubled when you catch the slightest cold.

i admire you art work and know it will be perfected with time. and how about those a,b,c's & 1,2,3's - you're awesome with those.

i sometimes even glance back at your earlier pictures and wish you'd let me cuddle you like i love to do!

i get weirded out and upset when you become blue or hurt yourself. i want to cuddle you and make things all better so you can play freely again.

however, I do not enjoy when you get sick right before vacation and/or outings and we have to stay in the house and be blue and miserable!

i mean seriously...the last and only vacation of the summer. did ya have too?

okay, maybe that's a little harsh - the doctor did misdiagnose you - and wt_ is up with that?

nevertheless, I still love you!

i guess I am glad we stayed in most of the weekend. you drove me a little bit more crazier X's two.

we chased each other around...you finally found out to get behind your crib

you put your feet in my face and smacked me while napping.

we did laundry.

you took a trip to the park with nanna, pop pop, and zoe'.

we ventured out to the state fair - you quack, quacked and moo mooed in the 4-H area.

you met the dentist and told him you poop pooped...[and indeed you did].

each day I am blessed that you get a little better [smiles]...

you're still my favorite monster!

i guess we will plan for another trip soon.

just promise me you won't be under the weather...please.

love,
your #1 fan

...He Played Many

As the nursery rhyme goes:
This old man, he played one;
He played knick-knack on my thumb.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone;
This old man came rolling home.

Well this old tub (pictured above)
he played many;
He played bath time/wash up from birth till shall we say
two weeks ago (21 months of age)!
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone;
This old tub came rolling home.

This old tub, he also played slide;
He played knick-knack on my ottoman, floor, & couch!
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone;
This old tub always came rolling home.

This old tub, he played and he's lived his life;
He played knick-knack many a days.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone;
This old tub left home this past weekend and took a trip to the recycling bin

No more confined baths.
No more throwing the tub on the couch in super hero mode.
No more sliding the tub off of the ottoman and across the floor banging it into my walls.
That old tub now has a new home.

Wee-wee or woo-woo? Pee-pee or pooh-pooh?

Daily conversations with my son about using the potty (at 21 months)!
Mommy: Beeka do you have to pooh?
Beeka: Noooooooooooooooooooooo.
Mommy: Well, do you have to pee-pee?
Beeka: Yes!
Beeka runs to the potty and sits on it…with his clothes on!
OR
Beeka to Mommy: Potty…pee-pee (as he pulls down his pants).
Mommy: okay let’s potty...
5 seconds later, at the potty…
Mommy: (as I pull off the pull-up) Beeka, you have to tell me potty before you go, not afterwards
Beeka: oooOOOOOOOOkkaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy.
OR
Beeka: Yelling, “Pottttttttttttttttttttttty”, as he runs to Mommy with his pamper in his hand.
[I guess I shouldn’t complain…I pretended to start potty training at 19 months after buying this book and then seriously after receiving this potty video]

Sleepy Time...an ode to my dearest

My Dearest Son,
You are the love of my life and the apple of my mommy tummy.
However, you must learn that when mommy says, "time for sleepy" at night (readers: I will not disclose the time) it is not a time for the following:

  • Pulling your diaper off and running like a mad man through the house;
  • Screaming to the top of your lungs while attempting to do somersaults;
  • Running into a room in the house (take your pick) and pulling down anything in sight (and then refuse to clean up);
  • Climbing onto mommies bed and running towards the headboard - banging on it then running to the foot-board while attempting to jump up and down (all at the same time - while laughing); and
  • Picking up the diaper you pulled off minutes ago and throwing it at mommy along with your slippers and possibly socks if they are laying around!

My dearest, "sleepy time" is what mom is right at this exact moment "SLEEPY"

  • It's a time when you grab your favorite book and listen to a story,
  • It's a time when you lay down like a good little boy and just go to sleep,
  • It's a time when you let mommy play on the computer or whatever or shenanigans she attempts to do while you are sleep,
  • Quite possibly it's the time when mommy actually gets to sleep - despite she wakes up two or three times throughout the night to check on you (so really she never sleeps)!

My Dearest Son
Love of my life
Apple of my mommy tummy
"Sleepy time" is a time when I wish you'd just rest that little soul and go to sleep...for the morning comes very earlier and we both know you hate "morning time".
Why? Because "morning time" for you is this:

plus the drama and whining, the babbling about what? I don't know but I am convinced you are talking bad to me

So, once again my dearest son
Love of my life
Joy of my soul
Apple of my mommy tummy
Do the two of us both a favor - rest your little soul and perhaps sleepy time for mommy will stop being what it is at this exact moment, "SLEEPY".

Back seat meltdown

The ride in the mom mobile
…some days are perfect
…some okay
…some suspect
Those suspect days are the days it takes 4, 2, .5 seconds for there to be what I am now calling “a backseat meltdown”!
What a mess!
 I thought this little dude was just in the back calmly roh, roh, roh youll boa’ng it (that’s row, row, row your boat folks)!
This boy! That’s my first thought…then I proceed to slowly look in my rear view mirror to only see the boy looking right back at me with his face wrinkled up to the left side!
Then… the hang slightly to the left of his car seat gesture begins - as to say I can’t see where we are or even possibly where we are going mom!
...then there’s the unnnnnnn moan with a slight cry of annoyance.
…the hep peez  (help please) over and over again begins - because  I want my book, my ball cap, a tissue, to hold your phone so I can watch Elmo or Mickey Mouse, a drink, my binky, I can’t take my shoes or socks off,  you’re not paying attention to me, or just to get the hell out of this seat.
And there’s good ol’ mom…slowly turning the volume up on the radio only to be interrupted by the boys new monthly concept: the 3 loud screams (he thinks this gets him attention)
Owl
Owlll
Ouwwwllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
Good ol’ mom just looks back and smiles and then screams back REALLY loud
The boy looks at me…with a facial expression that says man she’s good!

6.22.2010

Mommy, Mommy, Mommy…

Ughh, I think someone just realized who their momma was! Yes, I am speaking of my son. After two months of asking him, “where’s mommy,” by myself and other family members…and him joyfully pointing to himself with a sly grin…he now decides he wants me to be his momma.
So now on the way to daycare, when I pick him up from daycare, when he sees me, or when he thinks I am going to leave him it’s mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy as gazillion billion catrillion times!
Huh, things to wish or not wish for…I think I even heard it in my sleep last night.
